Marine Machinery Mechanic

Duties You will perform preventative and corrective maintenance of diesel main propulsion boat engines, gasoline outboard engines, pumps, steering systems, shafts, propellers, rudders, valves, generators, launchers, etc.

You will determine the nature and extent of necessary repairs and makes needed repairs by replacing, reworking or refinishing worn or damaged parts and components.
You will reassemble and install the equipment, connect the power sources, perform operational and functional tests and make required adjustments to ensure proper operation of the system.
You will operate small watercraft during the absence of normally assigned operators or during peak test operations.
You will serve as Boat Engineer while vessel is underway to ensure proper operation and repair of engines and auxiliary systems.
You will load and unload explosive ordnance from vessels, vehicles and magazines in compliance with safety regulations.
You will review and approve test plans and provides procedural recommendations for research test operations at CBD.

I have independently performed all the duties of a Marine Machinery Mechanic, such as:
install, maintain, repair, and operate marine machinery on watercraft; maintain, both preventatively and correctively, diesel main propulsion boat engines, gasoline outboard engines, pumps, steering systems, shafts, propellers, rudders, valves, generators, launchers, etc.
; determine the nature and extent of necessary repairs and make needed repairs by replacing, reworking or refinishing worn or damaged parts and components; reassemble and install the equipment, connect the power sources, perform operational and functional tests and make required adjustments to ensure proper operation of the system; use test equipment and measuring devices such as alignment scopes, Vernier calipers, micrometers, precision levels, etc.
; interpret and apply the requirements contained in technical manuals, blueprints and other documents in determining critical dimensions and key reference points; apply standard formulas, shop mathematics, trade theories and industry practices in calculating needed materials and problem solving; operate small watercraft under all prevailing weather conditions; load and unload explosive ordnance from vessels, vehicles and magazines in compliance with safety regulations; coordinate research testing operations including utilization of aircraft, watercraft, stable and floating platforms, and foreign/domestic ordnanceApplicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
